Democracy- The Embrace of Dialogue

Democracy is defined by its embrace of dialogue. The People Dialogue Festival (PDF), an annual event organized by Centre for Multiparty Democracy Kenya embodies this essence. This year’s edition was held at the historic Uhuru Park in Nairobi and brought together individuals from various walks of life, nationalities, ages and experiences.

‎The atmosphere was lively, with an infectious buzz across the entire venue that made the event so memorable and enjoyable. It was really great catching up with many friends and acquaintances , and establishing new linkages.

There were illuminating discussions and robust debates across the Festival’s dialogue spaces focusing on Political Parties, Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), Youth, SRHR, Public Financial Management (PFM) and High school leaners.

‎ Additionally, there were lively sessions by the Youth Sounding Board of Denmark in Kenya that amplified youth-focused and inspired solutions to key issues including waste management and youth action on the SDGs.
A culinary conversations corner that advanced sustainable food consumption, curated by Danish do-tank 2030beyond
and nOmy Group and run by Danish and Kenyan culinary students, was a great hit!

Numerous political parties and various organizations including Uraia Trust, Bajeti Hub,Transparency International Kenya, Badili Africa ,Africa Youth Leadership Forum Kenya ,Mzalendo Trust educated the public on their respective missions.

‎I had the great privilege of addressing a session on advancing SDGs through Democratic Governance and another at the PFM Village, on An Enabling Business Environment as a Stimulant for Economic Growth.

‎Having attended all previous editions of the PDF, I am glad to note its impressive growth and most importantly, its continued tradition of promoting the culture of dialogue in Kenya.

‎Kudos to the Centre for Multiparty Democracy Kenya!

I look forward to the next one!
